Max Verstappen topped a chaotic qualifying session ahead of the 2023 Canadian Grand Prix.

The Dutchman would have started alongside the Haas of Nico Hülkenberg who finished P2 but was later hit with a three-place grid penalty for going too slowly under red flag conditions.

It was a day of surprise on a wet Montreal circuit with both Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc eliminated at the end of Q2.

Leclerc’s team-mate Carlos Sainz qualified in P8 but was moved down after he was handed a grid penalty for impeding.
