Adrian Newey penned a new Red Bull deal to end speculation over a potential team swap, something which David Coulthard never foresees happening.

Newey is considered one of the greatest car designers which Formula 1 has ever seen, his title-winning touch covering spells with Williams, McLaren and now Red Bull.

A combined 11 Constructors’ titles have been won with Newey designs, and that tally looks set to grow further with Red Bull possessing the ideal figure to steer the ship for these ground-effect Formula 1 challengers, considering that this aerodynamic model was the subject of his university thesis.

Red Bull’s rivals then are well aware of the threat which Newey poses, and indeed it was reported that Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had instructed a colleague to call Newey in a bid to bring him to Brackley.

But, if such attempts were made, then they failed, with Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko having confirmed that Newey has agreed fresh terms to continue his association with Red Bull, which started back in 2006.

And it has been predicted by David Coulthard, who drove for Red Bull from 2005-2008, and played a key role in luring Newey to Red Bull, that this team is where the 64-year-old will see out his Formula 1 career.

“He’s been with the team for such a long period of time, he’s in his 60s, the question is did he want to take a new challenge with another team?” Coulthard stated on Channel 4. “Every team wanted him.

“He’s committed to Red Bull long-term, this will be his last Formula 1 team.”

Such a prediction falls very much in line with Marko’s, who after confirming the news that Newey is sticking around with Red Bull, had revealed his expectation that Newey will retire with Red Bull.

“Adrian has been with us for 17 years and although it is not a contract for life, he has always received attractive offers from the competition and will continue to do so,” Marko toldAuto Bild.

“I hope and am sure that he will retire with us.”

The Newey-inspired trophy cabinet at Red Bull looks set to get busier still when F1 2023 is all said and done, the team currently untouchable with four one-two finishes claimed out of five grands prix so far.

Red Bull’s lead in theConstructors’ standingsalready puts them 122 points clear of Aston Martin, while Drivers’ Championship leader Max Verstappen is 14 points ahead of team-mate Sergio Perez and 44 clear of Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso.
