Coulthard and Chadwick make up Team GB for RoC

Ex-Formula 1 driver David Coulthard and two-time W Series Champion Jamie Chadwick will compete for Team GB at Race of Champions which takes place in Pite Havsbad, Sweden on February 5 and 6.

Coulthard, the 13-time Grand Prix winner is no stranger to the Race of Champions, having competed in the event on multiple occasions since making his debut in 2004.

The former Williams,McLaren, and Red Bull Formula 1 driver is looking forward to the event and will be hoping to add to his victory tally at this year’s event.

This year the event is known as ROC Snow + Ice World FINAL.

“Race Of Champions is an event I always enjoy competing in, but racing on snow and ice this year will be a very different experience to the stadium tracks,” said Coulthard.

“I have done some ice driving with AMG Mercedes in Sweden in the past, but it will be a challenge to beat the Nordic drivers in their element.”

Coulthard is joined in the Team GB line-up by two-time W Series Champion and Williams development driver Chadwick, who will make her Race of Champions debut and it is something that she is looking forward to competing in.

“I’m super excited to make my Race Of Champions debut in Sweden. It’s an event I’ve always loved watching so I can’t wait to experience it for the first time.” Chadwick added.

“It’s going to be an honor to represent Great Britain with an icon like David Coulthard.”

Chadwick and Coulthard are just the latest in a long list of drivers to be announced as part of the line-up for Race of Champions 2022, other drivers include, four-time Formula 1 champion,Sebastian Vettel, seven-time NASCAR Champion and IndyCar driver Jimmie Johnson andAlfa Romeo F1 teamdriver Valtteri Bottas.

Over 30 years, only one other female racer has competed in the main ROC events.

“That was Susie Wolff in 2014,” recalled ROC President Fredrik Johnsson.

“Susie teamed up with DC [David Coulthard] at that event to finish in second place in the ROC Nation’s Cup. ROC is designed to be a ‘level playing field’.

“I co-founded Race Of Champions with the world’s most successful female driver, Michele Mouton, who proved that women can win against men at the highest level. We look forward to seeing more women competing at the top-level of motorsports, as racing becomes more accessible.

“The ROC Nations Cup was introduced in 1999.

“At the time, it was a bit of an experiment, but this concept of team competition quickly became a big hit and really highlights the intense, but good-hearted rivalries and camaraderie that ROC is known for.”

The Race of Champions is a very special event for all of the drivers who participate and this is not lost on the organisers.

Johnsson added: “We took a risk coming to the Arctic Circle, but the international community of competitors look to ROC for something really special each year. Driver turn-out has once again been exceptional this year, despite the remote venue and the continued challenges of COVID.

“Sweden will give ROC fans the chance to see their favorite drivers take on the severe and unpredictable conditions of ice and snow.”
