艾德里安·韦组to stay on with Red Bull with new contract signed

Adrian Newey’s immediate future appears assured – the legendary car designer is set to stay on with Red Bull Racing.

With Newey’s Red Bull contract coming to an end at the close of 2023, rumours had swirled that the talismanic designer of Red Bull’s F1 cars could move to another team or leave Formula 1 behind.

But that speculation can come to an end, as Newey is set to stay on with Red Bull Racing for the immediate future.

While not officially announced by Red Bull, Newey will stay on as the team’s chief technical officer after a new contract has been thrashed out between him and Red Bull.

As per reports elsewhere, there are not yet specific details regarding how long the contract runs for.

“Adrian has been such a fundamental part since almost the beginning,” Horner said,as per Motorsport.com.

“He covers a lot of areas and, to have the depth of his experience and knowledge to draw upon, and the way he works with the young guys, it’s great.

“He’s just as motivated as he has always been. Obviously, he has a great interest in what’s going on in Powertrains, and Red Bull Advanced Technology as well. So, he covers the three pillars of the campus in Milton Keynes.”

With Pierre Wache working as the team’s technical director alongside Ben Hodgkinson on the powertrains side, Horner believes Newey’s unique talents are being utilised to their best in his role as chief technical officer.

“I think Pierre on the chassis side does a great job,” Horner said.

“We have got Ben Hodgkinson on Powertrains doing a fantastic job and Rob Gray on the Advanced Technology side. It’s a people business, and that enables him [Newey] to apply his expertise. He doesn’t have to be there every single day on one particular topic. We’re able to use the breadth of his experience across the group.”

While Red Bull have stability across their technical structure, Mercedes recently opted to make changes to theirs as James Allison returned to the role of technical director to oversee the W14. Allison had moved to the CTO role at the Brackley-based squad, reverting to his prior position after an internal review led by incumbent Mike Elliott. Elliott has taken over from Allison in the job swap, now acting as their CTO.

McLaren, too, also recently made changes to run with a trio of technical heads, following the decision to oust James Key from his position as technical director.
